Wells Fargo & Co. recently introduced a new service that gives its customers the ability to use hundreds of its ATMs in Oregon and southwest Washington to anonymously donate to selected local nonprofit organizations.

“We believe we are the first bank in the nation to provide our customers the ability to support their communities through an ATM on an ongoing basis,” said Alan Johnson of Portland, Wells Fargo’s Regional President.

The four nonprofit organizations chosen are Mercy Corps, a humanitarian aid and development group, the Oregon Food Book, a group that distributes food to 915 hunger relief agencies, SOLV, which unites government, business and individuals to enhance Oregon livability, and Start Making A Reader Today, a group that delivers one-on-one literacy support and new books to children.

The service is available to Wells Fargo customers at 239 Wells Fargo ATMs in Oregon and southwest Washington. Wells Fargo’s other 16 ATMs in that region will start offering the service in November when they are reprogrammed.

Each donation can range from one penny to $249.99, and the organization will receive 100 percent of the donation.
