Dolores Irene Olson, 78, of Seaside, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, from complications of Parkinson’s disease and stroke.
She was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Salt Lake City, to Ina (Foss) and Arthur N. Chase. She graduated from Seaside Union High School in 1947.
On Aug. 11, 1950, she married Ben Everett Olson. He preceded her in death in 1990. The couple lived in Seaside, Portland and Medford, settling in Seaside permanently in 1959.

She was involved with the PTA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Miss Oregon Scholarship Pageant. She was in bowling leagues and very active with the American Legion Auxiliary, Elks Club and Moose Lodge. She was instrumental in starting an outreach ministry that eventually became the “Sunday Supper” program, and she helped found the Sunset Parks and Recreation District to build a swimming pool in Seaside.
She was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Seaside.
Family members said that during the winter months the couple spent hours on the beach looking for glass floats and loved to make trips to Reno and golf weekends with friends. She enjoyed bingo, cards, “Wheel of Fortune” and watching the Trailblazers and Mariner baseball. She loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by a daughter; three sons; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Margaret Chase of Sacramento; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Hoefler, and her husband, Ray, of Salem; and a caregiver, Laura Osburne.
