Wildcats wrap up season with loss

MARYSVILLE, Calif. – The Seaside Wildcats wrapped up their 2008 summer season Sunday night with a 9-0 loss to the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox at All Seasons RV Stadium in Marysville, Calif.

Seaside (28-15 overall) lost all three games of the three-game series with Yuba-Sutter, comprised of mostly college players from California.

The Gold Sox (31-11 overall) got to Seaside starter Anthony Wirkkala early in Sunday’s finale, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first.

Yuba added a run in the second and four in the third for a 9-0 lead.

Dan Wolfe pitched the final two innings for Seaside, retiring all six batters he faced. Kyle Hallett had three of Seaside’s four hits.

The Gold Sox won Saturday’s game 7-2, capitalizing on four Seaside errors.

Yuba-Sutter’s Kyle Loretelli went 3-for-3 with three steals and a run scored for the Gold Sox.

The Wildcats tried to rally in the fourth, as Hallett and Eric Gantenbein each reached on base hits, before Yuba pitcher Grayson Adams struck out Steve Binder to end the inning.

Hallett went 3-for-4 and Tom Jaworski was 2-for-4 with a double, while Seaside stranded 10 base runners.

Yuba-Sutter opened the series with a 4-3 victory Friday.

Jack Mikel’s two-run double in the seventh inning gave the Gold Sox the lead.

The Wildcats’ Mike Rizzuto and Jaworski each had two hits.
