Hindurwa, which means to be changed, is a music group of students from Rwanda, who sing and speak about how God miraculously changed their lives from hopeless situations. These young men were devestated by the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, but now they are sponsored by Africa New Life Ministries, a Christian organization that helps children in Rwanda.
Tony Mornoes, along with his wife, Serena, founded Africa New Life Ministries. The organization has more than 70 Rwandan staff members and they sponsor over 2,000 students and have six orphan homes.
Hindurwa toured in the United States in 2006 and 2007, singing at schools, churches, and universities all over Washington, Oregon, Idaho and California.
The group will be performing at Rockaway Community Church on July 27 at 6 p.m. The church is located at 400 S. Third St. in Rockaway. The show includes trational African drumming performed by group members that include Enric Sifa (lead singer and vocalist), Emma Twebaze (keyboards), Brian Bizimungu (vocals) and two new singers, Moses Mbona and jean Claude Nshimiyimana.
