Caregivers who need a respite from caring for adults with memory loss or physical disabilities have a new center to turn to for help.
Tillamook General Hospital has opened a new Wellspring Respite Day Center in North Tillamook County. The cost is $26 a day. However, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay, said Linda Heyne, director of volunteer services.
The center is designed for adults who suffer from memory loss or have cognitive or physical limitations requiring direct supervision. Activities, a lunch, snacks, music and simple crafts and games are available for participants.
A registered nurse and several volunteers spend time with the participants throughout the day.
“The respite center allows caregivers to relax and re-energize, and it gives a person who is homebound to get out of the home and socialize,” Heyne said.
Other Wellspring respite day centers are provided through Faith in Action, a community outreach program of Tillamook General Hospital. Those locations include Tillamook Seventh-Day Adventist Church on the first and third Wednesdays; Tillamook United Methodist Church, second and fourth Tuesdays; and Beaver Community Church, second and fourth Thursdays.
The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays at Covenant Community Church, 36495 Highway 101 North in Manzanita.
Pre-registration is required. Caregivers can receive enrollment forms and help completing the forms by calling Faith in Action at (503) 815-2272 or (800) 356-0460, ext. 2272.
