Seaside and Cannon Beach get 79 percent passing rate in liquor control minor sales check

SEASIDE – Fifteen of 19 businesses in Seaside and Cannon Beach passed an Oregon Liquor Control Commission minor sales check by refusing to sell alcohol to a minor. The 79 percent passing rate is consistent with the 2007 statewide average of 78 percent; about 1,300 licensed liquor businesses are tested each year.

The following licensees passed the compliance check in Seaside: Seaside Stop N Go, Seaside Liquor Store, Rite Aide, 12th Avenue Market, Seaside Discount Cigarette Store, Turnaround Market, Sam’s, Pudgy’s, Fultano’s, Girtle’s Restaurant & Lounge, Beach Club, Truckee’s 1 Stop and Pizza Hut. In Cannon Beach, those passing the compliance test were The Lumberyard Restaurant and The Wine Shack.
The following licensees failed the compliance check: Seaside Safeway and Shilo Restaurant and Lounge in Seaside and Laurel’s Cannon Beach Wine Shop and Mariner Market in Cannon Beach.
Laurel’s Cannon Beach Wine Shop also failed an OLCC compliance check in August 2007.

In Tillamook, two of six businesses passed the OLCC minor sales check. The 33 percent passing rate is significantly below the 2007 statewide average of 78 percent.
Center Market No. 12 and Third Street Shell & Grocery in Tillamook passed the compliance check. The following licensees failed the check: Center Market No. 9, Tillamook Shell & Grocery, Ryan & Dot’s Kwik Mart and K & B Deli Mart.
Servers, bartenders and licensees whose employees sell alcohol to the minor, or do not verify the minor’s age, are subject to OLCC administrative penalties including fines or suspensions. Store clerks can be cited with criminal charges and a minimum $350 fine.
The OLCC offers a training course at no cost on how to check identification. Interested persons can call the local OLCC office to schedule a training session.
