Coast to coast connection

The Ear received a very interesting e-mail from Jaeson Koszarsky, a videographer who lives in State College, Pa., about his martial arts accomplishments and those of his wife, Jennifer Koszarsky, who is an engraver. The Ear can already hear you saying, “Huh? What’s the link to Astoria?” Jaeson describes it best:
“During a vacation in 2002, we found Jennifer’s wedding dress in the window at Steven’s (Fine Clothing). In 2005, we had the opportunity to renew our wedding vows in the famous Goonies house with Sean Astin as one of our witnesses. We’re supporting members of KMUN and subscribe to The Daily Astorian. I’m also an online member of Astoria’s Anything Commodore Users Group. We’re planning to move to Astoria in a few years and be active contributors to the community.”
So, even though they live so far away, they are very connected to Astoria.
Recently the Koszarskys earned their full instructor certifications in Isshin Ryu Karate from the Isshin Ryu World Karate Association of Okinawa, Japan. This comes after a year of training and teaching as third degree black belts (SanDan).
In 2007, the couple competed at the IWKA World Championship tournament in Princeton, Ohio. Jaeson placed second in Men’s SanDan Kobudo. Jennifer was one of a few of the 600 competitors to demonstrate the long Hamahiga No Tuifa, an advanced and difficult “form” – a series of techniques that are put together in a format similar to a complicated dance, which is used to hone balance and skill.
Congratulations to the indomitable couple!
