GEARHART – Following two months of renovations, McMenamins Hotels, Pubs & Breweries has announced that the Sand Trap, located at 1157 N. Marion Ave. in Gearhart, reopened to the public Tuesday. Located in the clubhouse of the Gearhart Golf Links, an 18-hole public course founded in 1892, the Sand Trap will offer lunch, dinner and late-night fare daily. Brunch will be served on weekends.

The Grand Reopening and St. Patrick’s Day Celebration will be from March 15 through 17, and will include two days of three-man scrambles. Call the pro shop at 738-3538 to register to participate. Joe Mishkin, “The Balloon Guy,” Floating Glass Balls, Bingo Dream Band, Porter and Dodge and the Beerman Creek String Band will also be featured during the three-day event. All are welcome.

McMenamins Sand Trap is a family-friendly restaurant and bar with 120 seats inside and an additional 100 seats on the outdoor terrace overlooking the Links. The menus include pub fare of burgers, salads, sandwiches, handmade pizza and calzones, as well as a selection of daily seafood specialties. There is a full bar with a fireplace that features McMenamins handcrafted ales, wines and spirits, and a separate bar, Amen Corner.

The meeting and event space, Livingstone’s, named after Robert Livingstone, one of the course’s original Scottish founders, can accommodate up to 180 people indoors and an additional 100 people outdoors. A separate catering menu will be available for groups renting the space.

Beginning March 20, with the bluegrass of the Darrin Craig Trio, the Sand Trap will host weekly live music at no cost, open to guests of all ages. Other regular events will include the monthly Great Northwest Music Tour that features both Pacific Northwest and national guests, outdoor summer concerts by local and regional artists, wine dinners and tastings, golf tournaments in conjunction with Gearhart Golf Links and much more.

McMenamins’ company artists have added murals, brightly painted orbs and other forms of artwork depicting the history of the property.
