Speakers and listeners converge in CCC-sponsored event

A three-day traveling event, intended to honor and respect our region as well as its dwellers, is being sponsored by Clatsop Community College Arts and Ideas Monday through Wednesday.

“Having Everything Right: A Project in Eloquent Listening” is inspired by the writings of Kim Stafford. Participants in this series of meetings will include Stafford as the “Eloquent Listener” and “Dwellers,” invited community members who have established themselves and their spirit of dedication to our region. Monday

? 2 p.m. – The Coastal Natural History Center, 2674 U.S. Highway 101, Seaside. Neal Maine, president of the North Coast Land Conservancy, and Rich Trucke will give greetings and welcome SHS students.

? 4 p.m. – Ecola State Park, off U.S. Highway 101, just north of Cannon Beach. Bring a potluck dish to share and silverware. “Stories of Place” will be offered from local visual artists, workers and writers. If there are wind gusts of 45 miles or over, the event will move to the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce.

? 7 p.m. – Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce, 207 N. Spruce St., Cannon Beach. Formal reading by Kim Stafford of Lewis and Clark University, Portland. Greetings by Peter Lindsey.

Tuesday

? 10 a.m. – The River Theater, 230 W. Marine Drive, Astoria. A conversation with Robert Adams and Kim Stafford is moderated by Stephen Forrester, editor of The Daily Astorian.

? 2:30 p.m. – Bonfire at River Beach, Fort Stevens State Park, Warrenton. Meet for caravan at CCC Art Center at 2 p.m. or show up at the beach. Greetings by Peter Huhtala. Participants will build a shelter out of the storm driftwood.

? 6 p.m. – CCC Art Center Gallery, 1653 Jerome Ave., Astoria. “The Muses Among Us,” faculty art show reception. The exhibit features works by CCC staff artists and will run through Feb. 29.

Wednesday

? 8 a.m. – MERTS Campus Dock, off Oregon Highway 30, just east of Astoria. Sail on the M/V Forerunner across the Columbia River to Fort Columbia, Wash. Call Nancy Cook at 791-1514 to make a reservation.

? 10 a.m. – Fort Columbia State Park, U.S. Highway 101, Chinook, Wash. Join Chinook Tribal Elder Ray Gardiner, Richard Rowland, Robert Michael Pyle and David Campiche.

? 11:30 a.m. – Fort Columbia State Park, Chinook, Wash. Closing ceremony,

? Noon – Closing ceremonies at China Beach Retreat, Ilwaco, Wash.
