Frederick W. Herold, Sr., 91, of Warrenton, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, in Astoria.

He was born July 13, 1916, in Bend, to Richard and Mary (Beebe) Herold. He was raised in Bend until he was 11 years old. The family moved to Hammond, where he attended school.
Mr. Herold joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and then the U.S. Army as a surgical technician 3. He was stationed in Texas and India during World War II.
After World War II, he worked at the Point Adams Cannery in Hammond. Starting in April 1969, he operated and managed Bud Colby’s Texaco Station in Warrenton until his retirement in September 1981.

Family members said he enjoyed fishing, hunting, beachcombing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Herold is survived by a sister, Mable Seimens of Spokane, Wash.; three daughters, Judy Pullinger and Peggy Hoffman of Astoria and Kathy Olsen of Port Angeles, Wash.; five grandchildren, Justin and Caity Olsen of Port Angeles, Andria Hoffman of Hermiston, Jeremy Hoffman of Astoria, Brandon Carignon of Florence; extended family member, Linda Selvy of Warrenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Frederick William Herold Jr.; two brothers, Milton and Bruno Herold; and a sister, Lucy Herold.
At Mr. Herold’s request, there will be no service held at this time.
