Obituaries: Sally Jeanette Johnson

Sally Jeanette Johnson, 75, of Astoria, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, in Hammond.

She was born Aug. 15, 1932, in Woodson, to Charles Henry and Mary (Huhta) Steph. She was raised in Marshland.

On July 3, 1952, she married Donald F. Johnson in Kelso, Wash. He preceded her in death in 1986.

Mrs. Johnson moved to the Clatsop County area in 1940 from Clatskanie. She did clerical work at Tongue Point Naval Station. She also was a medical records clerk at the Astoria Clinic, retiring in 1996.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Finnish Brotherhood Lodge, American Legion and Angora Club. She volunteered for Loaves & Fishes and the American Red Cross.

Family members said she enjoyed traveling, hiking, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was well known for her blackberry pie.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Brenda Johnson and Greg and Michele Johnson, all of Astoria, and David and Cheryl Johnson of Portland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Rick Stott of N. Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lori and Troy Johnson of Astoria; 10 grandchildren, Bryon, Adam and Brandon Stott of N. Salt Like City, Joshua Stott of Monterey, Calif., Rachel Johnson of Monmouth, Sarah Johnson of Klamath Falls, Cole, Kaisa and Karsten Johnson, all of Astoria, and Claire Johnson of LaGrande; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Andrew Rosenberger of Warrenton; a sister-in-law, Blanch Steph of Astoria; two nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bert Johnson in May 2007; a granddaughter, Jessica Stott, in 1985; a brother, George Steph; and a sister, Edna Pietila.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.

Vault interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
