Camping allowed at Fort Stevens after storm clean-up

WARRENTON – Fort Stevens State Park is open for camping again beginning Monday.

Both the north and south loops of the park’s campground had been closed since Dec. 3 as crews restored power and removed fallen trees and debris following the north coast’ devastating winds two weeks ago. Nearly 300 trees toppled in both loops, one falling on one of the park’s 15 yurts.

Although the Fort Stevens yurt village also has reopened, cleanup and power issues will keep the rest of the south loops closed indefinitely. All sites in the north loops of the 510-site campground are now available.

Cape Lookout State Park’s campground, 11 miles southwest of Tillamook, is the only year-round coastal state park camping area still closed because of storm damage. The 228-site campground’s reopening has been delayed until at least Wednesday.
