Obituaries: Willard R. Jarchow

Willard R. Jarchow, 85, of Seaside, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, in Seaside.

He was born in Oak Park, Ill., in 1922.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He also served in Korea.

He graduated from Detroit Institute of Technology and earned an a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University and a certificate in data processing.

He married Doris Jarchow, who survives. The couple moved to Seaside in 1998.

After working for Ticor Title Insurance at their Los Angeles home office, Mr. Jarchow switched careers and taught business subjects in colleges for the next 25 years. He was an associate professor at Western Kentucky University, and later Bellarmine College in Louisville, Ky.

Mr. Jarchow served on the board of the Seaside Library. He was organist and pianist at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, as well as at Seaside United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Marguerite Choy of Silver Spring, Md., Teresa Jarchow of Cleveland, Ohio, and Martha Rhoda of Seattle; a stepdaughter, Bridget Whitehead of Louisville; two granddaughters, Beth and Sarah Choy; and a brother, Lawrence E. Jarchow of Chicago.

A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Seaside United Methodist Church.
