Joy Yvonne Olafson Miller (Kent)

Joy Yvonne Olafson Miller (Kent), age 74, of Holland, Michigan passed away at her home in Oak Crest – Lighthouse Manor on Saturday, November 17, 2007 following a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Joy was born in Portland, Oregon to Vernon and Clysta Olafson. She was raised in Seaside, Oregon, and was a 1950 graduate of Union High School in Seaside. She also attended Oregon State University. Later in life she obtained her teaching certificate and in 1979 she graduated with a Masters Degree from Western Michigan University. She was a teacher at Jack D. Jones Elementary School in White Cloud, Michigan, for twenty-five years. Besides being a wonderful mother and grandmother, she was an avid golfer and bowler. She traveled the country participating in many national bowling tournaments. Joy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert Olafson.

She is survived by her children: Kevin Kent of Zeeland, MI; Kenneth and Cynthia Kent of Hartford, MI; Karla (formerly Kent) and Thomas Lonergan of Naperville, IL; Ty and Carrie Miller of Fremont, MI; 10 Grandchildren, Ryan, Casey, Alyssa, Kelly, Kathlyn, Kevin, Kenna, Jaxx, Calla and Chaz; and Brother Wayne and Mary Olafson of Quartzite, AZ

A memorial service will be 10:00AM Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Lakeshore Memorial Services 11939 James Street in Holland.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Joy Miller’s name to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation, 30400 Telegraph Road, Suite 150, Bingham Farms, MI 48025.
