KNAPPTON, Wash. – The Knappton Cove Heritage Center, the Columbia River’s “Ellis Island” and U.S. Quarantine Station from 1899 to 1938, will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday for its 10th Annual “Horriable Day” event commemorating the Lewis and Clark Expedition’s adventures on the North Shore of the Columbia River in 1805.

Visitors can explore the museum, take a guided walk to the river beach for a close-up view of the Lewis and Clark Canoe Trail, view David Manuel’s Lewis and Clark bronze sculpture and interact with some Pacific Northwest Living Historians, who will be dressed in buckskins. Hot cider will be served.

This National Heritage Site is located three miles upriver from the north side of the Astoria Bridge, and two miles upriver from the “Dismal Nitch.”

There is no cost for the event, but donations are welcomed.
