The Astoria-based U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast, pictured above right, was among the ships kicking off Fleet Week in Seattle’s Elliott Bay Wednesday, part of the city’s annual Seafair celebration.
Others in the Parade of Ships included Royal Canadian and U.S. Navy vessels, such as the guided-missile warship USS Rentz. Civilians were invited aboard Wednesday for demonstrations of equipment, and ships opened for tours Thursday at Pier 91, on Seattle’s downtown waterfront, according to Seafair.
The 210-foot medium endurance cutter Steadfast is used for a variety of missions, ranging from fisheries and law enforcement to drug interdiction in the South Pacific. Its homeport is at the 17th Street pier, alongside the Columbia River Maritime Museum.
