Obituaries: Nancy G. Potts

Nancy G. Potts, 91, of Ocean Park, Wash., died Thursday, July 19, 2007, in Long Beach, Wash., following a short illness.

She was born April 26, 1916, in Vancouver, Wash., to Ernest and Mabel (Preston) Speed. The family moved to the Long Beach Peninsula, where she attended Ilwaco High School.

In 1933, she married Henry Flagar. He preceded her in death.

She married Clifford “Slim” Potts. He preceded her in death in 1990, after 16 years of marriage.

Mrs. Potts worked candling eggs. During World War II, she worked in the Vancouver, Wash., shipyards. She later worked at the Crown Zellerbach mill in Camas, Wash. She returned to the Long Beach Peninsula 25 years ago, settling in Ocean Park.

Family members said she relished the quiet life at the coast and enjoyed her animals and crocheting.

Mrs. Potts is survived by three daughters, Henrietta Meredith of Camas, Fern Ham of Des Moines, Wash., and Nancy Roylance of Ocean Park; a son, Walter Flagar of Orchards, Wash.; a brother, Ronald Speed of Woodburn, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, members of her extended family; and special friend, Kathy Williams.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a daughter, Gwendolyn Casper.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Penttila’s Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Peaceful Hill Cemetery in Naselle, Wash.
