The Little Apple, Inc Fireworks stand is now open in Manzanita. This year the stand will donate all profits to the non-profit Rinehart Clinic located in Wheeler, Oregon and to the Tillamook County Secret Angels for use in the service area covered by School District #56. Over a dozen volunteers will help with the stand this year. The first volunteers were Eric and TJ Holmberg from Rockaway Beach who helped with the unpacking of about 50 boxes. According to Patty Rinehart, stand co-ordinator, “These two students did a terrific job helping with this task. These boxes are quite heavy but these young men made the job look easy.”
Along with selling fireworks that are legal in Oregon there will also be non-firework items such as glow sticks, hats, tablecloths, flags, decorative banners, and patriotic spinners.
The Tillamook County Secret Angels provide services to people that otherwise fall between the cracks. This group works with individuals and families so that they will someday become self sufficient. North County Co-ordinator is Nancy Bogle of Nehalem. Nancy wants to get people job training and jobs so that they do not have to rely on outside services except in emergencies. A good example of Nancy’s work was this past year when there was flooding in the Nehalem area. She was there to help with food and clothing. In many cases the people flooded out could not work as they had to clean up their homes. Many of the people that this group has helped are now giving back to this organization.
The Rinehart Clinic provides primary medical care for all of the community regardless of their ability to pay. Besides accepting multiple medical insurance plans and Medicare, the Rinehart Clinic also provides care to those without medical insurance or prescription coverage.
The Clinic is able to provide this care in part by fund raising. The Jetty Fishery Crab Derby raised over $7,000 for the Rinehart Clinic just a few weeks ago. The next event coming up will be the Rinehart Clinic Sand Dollar Auction on August 25th. Tickets for this event are almost sold out. Ticket seller, Diane Gibson (503-368-6707) said once all the tickets are sold a waiting list will be started and she will try to accommodate as many people as possible. Joyce Jensen (503-368- 4284) says she is still collecting items for the auction. Jensen says she is “amazed of the quality of gifts coming in this year. People that want to support the Rinehart Clinic are purchasing nice gifts, such as dinners, hotel stays, books, and donating them to the auction. We’re hoping we can get more people to think about doing this.”
The Little Apple, Inc. fireworks booth is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM now through the 5th. of July.
