The trail expands the exhibit at Gnat Creek Hatchery, about 18 miles east of Astoria off U.S. Highway 30; it follows the creek through stands of Western hemlock trees to a campground site and is marked with interpretive signs.
At a ceremony Saturday, local Boy Scouts joined the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and officials from Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Department of Forestry, Oregon State University Extension Office and North Coast Watershed Association in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the trail.
Officials said the trail opening marks a successful collaboration among several state agencies as well as the introduction of new recreation and education opportunities in the area.

“Multiple agencies came together, extending their cooperation and their resources to build this exhibit to make it an exceptional outdoor opportunity for Oregonians,” said Gnat Creek Hatchery Manager Roger Warren.
