Obituaries: Marie Carnahan Parker

Marie Carnahan Parker, 83, of Surfside, Wash., died Monday, June 11, 2007, in Portland.
She was born Dec. 11, 1923, to Otillius and Agnes (Strand) Jensen in a small Norwegian fishing village. At an early age she immigrated to the U.S. with her parents, settling in the San Juan Islands, Wash.
She attended grade school in Chinook, Wash., and high school in Ilwaco, Wash.
She married Jack Carnahan. He preceded her in death in 1973.
She married Howard Parker, who survives, residing in Surfside.
For many years Mrs. Parker worked at the Coast Oyster cannery in Nahcotta, Wash., and for more than 20 years she was a clerk at Jack’s Country Store in Ocean Park, Wash.
In past years she attended Ocean Park Methodist Church.
Family members said she had been an avid bowler and in later years she took up golf. She enjoyed winters in warmer climates, playing bridge, knitting and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Judith Parker of Boston; a son, Jack Carnahan of Nahcotta; a brother, George Leage of Morro Bay, Calif.; a sister, Violet Leage of Morro Bay; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Carnahan, and two brothers, Orville and Ted Leage.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach, Wash.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Ocean Park Cemetery with a reception following at the Surfside Golf Course clubhouse.
