Seeking to fill a void in the realm of furniture offerings on the North Coast, longtime Clatsop County resident George Daggett recently returned from a hiatus of several years in Klamath Falls to establish Gearhart Fine Furnishings. The store will open in early June.
Daggett, who managed a furniture store in Klamath Falls, hatched the idea for a fine furniture store about a year ago, when he read a trade journal article stating that McMahan’s Furniture was closing its Astoria store. That closure took place in December last year.
“I realized there would be very little available to furniture shoppers from Astoria to Tillamook, and thought I could fill the gap,” Daggett said.
Gearhart Fine Furnishings will feature living room, dining room and bedroom sets in a variety of styles, including traditional, contemporary, and cottage, or “beach” style. Special orders will be available.
“If someone wants a couch in a fabric other that what is in my showroom, we’ll order it for them,” he said.
Daggett will also offer shoppers a range of pricing options.
“I’ll have a chest of drawers that sells for $200, and might have another that sells for $2,000,” he said.
Furniture product lines will include names such as Robert Michael and Cleveland Chair Company, which produces the Catnapper line of motion chairs, more commonly referred to as recliners. Financing will be available.
Gearhart Fine Furnishings is located at 3631 Hwy. 101 N. Initially the shop will be open seven days a week, from 10:a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday hours may be reduced in the future. For more information call (503) 717-1033.
