Susan Kristine Day, 55, of San Diego, formerly of Astoria, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in San Diego.
She was born Aug. 31, 1951, in Astoria, to Rudy and Edna Lovvold. Her mother survives. Her father preceded her in death.
Mrs. Day graduated from Astoria High School in 1969. She attended Oregon State University, Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University), Portland State University and graduated from Western Business College.
She married Garry Day. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Day worked at Bumble Bee Cannery in summers. She was auditor for Guild Mortgage from 1975 to 1984, in Portland and the San Diego area. Most recently she was a receptionist for Burnham Institute in Torrey Pines in San Diego.
She was past-president of SPRITES of East (San Diego) County, Calif., a philanthropic mother/daughter organization, and was president of Las Hermanas, an auxiliary to Children’s Home Society. She was active in the PTA at Fuerte Elementary School and Grossmont High School, a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
Family members said she was extremely proud of her Norwegian heritage, visiting her home town of Astoria for weeks during the Scandinavian and Crab and Seafood festivals. She loved the sea and shared her husband’s devotion to the tuna industry.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Day is survived by two daughters, Kristine and Jennifer Day; and a companion, Mark Kline.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Lovvold; and a mother-in-law, Beatrice Day Emerson; as well as by her husband and father.
A memorial is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Foothills United Methodist Church, 4031 Avocado Blvd. in La Mesa, Calif.
