Track: Astoria sweeps Yamhill

A triple-win day for Astoria’s Charlene Harber and Kyle McMullen helped the Fishermen track team post a pair of wins over Yamhill-Carlton Thursday, in a Cowapa League dual meet on the Astoria track.

Harber won the 100 meters (12.9 seconds), 200 meters (27.2) and the long jump (17 feet, 2 inches) to help the Astoria girls top the Tigers 78-67, while the Astoria boys beat Yamhill 81-64.

McMullen had wins in the 100-meter hurdles (15.81) and 300 hurdles (42.52), as well as the long jump (20-6 1/2).

Astoria’s Steven Wentworth added wins in the 100 (11.24) and 200 (23.28), with other victories from Nathan Stinnett (javelin, 161-10) and Alex Whitaker (shot put, 48-2).

Yamhill’s Tony Perry cleared 6-2 to win the high jump, with Astoria’s Justin Roberts and Chris Meyer both jumping 6-0.

In addition to Harber’s big day, Laura Bobek added wins for the girls in the discus (138-5, top mark in the state) and shot put (39-6).

Teammate Jamie Coggins was second in both events (107-10 and 36-6 3/4, respectively).

Astoria’s Marilyn Brooks won the high jump (5-0) and was second in the high hurdles (17.28), while Lynnae Huber placed second in the javelin with a toss of 96-0.
