Obituaries: Edward Mattingly

Edward Mattingly, 83, of Pleasant Hill, Calif., formerly of Astoria, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, in Pleasant Hill.
He was born May 12, 1923, in Chowchilla, Calif., to Edmund and Mary Mattingly.
He married Elsie Mattingly. She preceded him in death in 1968.
He married Lucile Mattingly. She survives, residing in Pleasant Hill. They were married for 31 years.
After graduating from high school, Mr. Mattingly enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He later joined the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring after a 30-year career at the rank of chief warrant officer. He was stationed in Astoria from 1960 to 1963.
Family members said he enjoyed his motor home. When that became tedious, the couple became world cruisers, traveling to many countries.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Mattingly is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Mattingly of Astoria; a sister, Joann Silcott of Yuba City, Calif.; three stepchildren and spouses, Dixon and Jamie McClenaghan, John McClenaghan and Patti and Dave Kepler; five grandchildren and a spouse, Jennifer and Carl Fischer and Amy, Michael, Andrew and Ben Mattingly; three stepgrandchildren and a spouse, David and Julia Kepler and Sarah and Shannon Kepler; and five great-grandchildren.
A service has already been held.
