The U.S. Coast Guard planned to search Grays Harbor by boat this morning for signs of a vessel in distress, after a flare was sighted Monday night.
The flare was spotted at about 8:45 p.m. near the entrance to Washington’s Grays Harbor, between buoys 9 and 11, said Petty Officer 1st Class Chris Buehl at USCG Group Astoria today.
The Coast Guard launched an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Astoria and a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Grays Harbor, which found nothing in a two-hour search.
Another motor lifeboat was scheduled to check the area at sunrise today.
