Three Tongue Point Job Corps Center students have been selected to attend the sixth annual Partners in Leadership conference in Washington, D.C., this month.
Mesfin Abate, Daniel Arthur and Nicole Cooper will attend the leadership training, which will focus on business etiquette and strategies for meeting with government officials.
In addition, students will likely meet U.S. Rep. David Wu as well as members of Sen. Gordon Smith’s and Sen. Ron Wyden’s offices at the conference, hosted by Management and Training Corporation.
Of 24 Job Corps centers managed by MTC, about 70 students out of 12,000 were selected to go to Washington D.C.
“We are very excited about attending the leadership conference and the opportunity for our students to meet Congressman Wu,” said Nancy Pyburn, Tongue Point Job Corps Center director.
“It is our goal to teach young adults the skills needed to become employable and secure meaningful jobs. Experiences like traveling to our nation’s capital help broaden their horizons.”
