War and peace remembered at Fort Stevens State Park

To celebrate the peace by remembering an act of war, a short ceremony will take place at noon Wednesday at the Pacific Rim Peace Memorial located at Battery Russell at Fort Stevens State Park.
The ceremony is a celebration of the peace and a way to remember the men of both sides when a Japanese submarine attacked Fort Stevens 64 years ago. A 105 howitzer salute follows the ceremony, which is sponsored by the Friends of Old Fort Stevens and Fort Stevens State Park, with the assistance of Camp Rilea. An interpreter at Battery Russell will showcase maps until 5 p.m. that provide insight into the events of that historic day in 1942.
