Ready for some rockabilly? On Saturday, June 17, at 9:30 p.m., new local group Shannon and the Cannons will be pumping out the sweet, boppin’ sound of feet-tapping rockabilly tunes. They will come armed with a plethora of traditional, old rockabilly songs and many originals as well. The group has been together just a short while and has already been playing all over town.
Shannon and the Cannons is composed of four members. Heading the foursome is Hiccupin’, Squeekin’ and Hollerin’ Shannon Mullins, who starred as Sally Bowles in the River Theater’s production of “Cabaret” last summer. Karl Nordquist, on guitar, has many claims to fame, including KMUN’s Blues in the Daylight and Juke Joint programmer and being a member of Astoria’s Stillbillies. On the Big Billy Boppin’ Doghouse Bass is Josh Baer, who once played along with Karl in the Stillbillies. Newly added Jeff Carden, of Swaggers notoriety, is on the Super Slammin’ Skins.
Check them out at the Cannery Cafe Lounge, located on the waterfront at No. 1 Sixth St. There will be no cover charge. For information, call (503) 325-8642.
