Mildred ‘Millie’ E. Guggisberg

Mildred “Millie” E. Guggisberg, 86, lifelong resident of Chinook, Wash., died Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006 in Chinook.

She was born Oct. 15, 1919 in Chinook to David Williams, a Welsh immigrant, and Hilda Erlandson, a native of Sweden.

Mrs. Guggisberg attended Chinook Grade School and graduated from Ilwaco High School in 1938, where she was a student body officer.

She married Virgil Guggisberg July 3, 1942 in Hoquiam, Wash. He survives, residing in Chinook.

Mrs. Guggisberg was a homemaker. She worked occasionally at Chinook Packing. She was a Cub Scout leader and PTA member. She was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chinook, where she was active in the Ladies Aid Society.

Mrs. Guggisberg enjoyed the outdoors, camping and decorating for all the holidays. Family members said she was an excellent cook and baker.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, she is survived by a grandson, Michael Guggisberg of Chinook; two great-granddaughters, Ryann and Samantha Guggisberg; a sister, Eileen Nyberg of Chinook; two brothers, Ervin Williams of Astoria and Robert Williams of Long Beach, Wash.

Mrs. Guggisberg was preceded in death by a son, Donald Guggisberg, and four siblings, Howard Williams, Helen Tetz, Eleanor Bacon and Ella Gottberg.

There will be a memorial at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chinook. A reception will follow.
