Joel Wayne Warner, 76, of Dallas, Ore., died Friday, April 7, 2006 in Montesano, Wash.

Mr. Warner was born Sept. 1, 1929 in Parshall, N.D., to Judson and Ragnhild (Nelson) Warner.
Raised in Parshall, he attended Model High School in Minot, N.D., where he excelled in athletics, making all-state in football, basketball and baseball in his senior year. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox following high school and attended training camp, but he than declined, choosing instead to play on the all-league service team and fly planes for the Air Force.
He served as a pilot during the Korean War and later worked various jobs, including being a technician for Boeing and a scientist for the Nuclear Commission.

He graduated from Minot State University in Minot.
Mr. Warner married Myrna Louise Wolff July 1, 1955 in Minot. She preceded him in death in 1979.
He and his family moved to Astoria in 1969, where he taught math and science and coached baseball, football and wrestling at Astoria High School. In 1996, he won the title of Oregon Senior Athlete of the Year.
In 1999, he moved to Dallas to be closer to his children. He belonged to the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Dallas.
He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Candee Warner of Montesano, Clay and Vanessa Warner of Monmouth, Curt and Heather Warner of Olympia, Wash., and Corey and Summer Warner of Salem; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kibby and Delwyn Warner, and a sister, Eleanor Moody.
A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. April 29, at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Dallas.
Interment will be in Minot.
