William David Farmer

William David Farmer, 87, of Warrenton, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 in Warrenton.

He was born Jan. 22, 1919 near Wesson, Miss., to Joseph and Maybelle Farmer. He attended schools in Union and Hopewell, Miss.

On Dec. 3, 1938, Mr. Farmer married Kathleen E. Hamilton in Hazelhurst, Miss. She later died.

During the early years of their marriage, the couple farmed. According to family members, Mr. Farmer later became an exceptional and talented welder. He worked several years for Lektro Inc. in Warrenton.

Mr. Farmer served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

The Farmers moved to the Warrenton area in 2001. Family members said he loved gardening, took much pride in every aspect of his garden and was a devoted Christian.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Carol Farmer of Warrenton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Karen Kalac of La Grande and Eileen and Ken Shoop of Hammond; eight granddaughters and their husbands, Paula and Rory McDade of Winterhaven, Calif., Diane and Tim Grey of Napes, Idaho, Carrie and Sam Jasmin of Warrenton, Julie and Mike Halicki of Hammond, Andrea and John Meiners of Astoria, Tamara and James Aiken of Warrenton, Leah and Mike Nordin of Raymond, Wash., and Kathy and David Duplisses of Antioch, Tenn.; two grandsons Michael Farmer of Warrenton and Brian Kalac and his wife, Dana, of Orlando, Fla.; 26 great-grandchildren, Henry Meiners, Lindsey, Maija, Michael and Logan Nordin, Kevin Hennessee, James Moore, Rien Duplisses, Jonathan, Andrew and Annika Kalac, Sarah, Patrick, Brittany, Ashley, Nicholas, Rory Jr., Justin and Cassie McDade, Timothy, Isaac, Elias and Isiah Grey, Brandi and Kayla Jasmin and Megan Halicki; and two sisters, Irabelle Mead of Jackson, Miss., and Claudine Boggess of Twisp, Wash.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton. A funeral will directly follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Ocean View Cemetery.
