Stormy Weather Arts Festival – Icefire Glassworks

Published 4:00 pm Wednesday, November 2, 2005

For this year’s Stormy Weather Festival, Icefire Glassworks features new work by resident artists James Kingwell and Suzanne Kindland.

Kingwell has continued the development of his “Bad Hair Day” series. These vases, pendant lamps and platters display edgy, complex patterning juxtaposed against a soft watercolor-inspired background. Kingwell has increased the scale of some of the vase forms this year.

Kindland will display her “Autumn Leaves” pieces at Icefire Glassworks, incorporating forms and colors that reflect the entire development of the series from 1995 to the present.

Kindland will be a featured artist at the Cannon Beach Arts Association’s Miniature Show, Nov. 5 through 29, where she will introduce a new series, the “Brocades,” at the opening from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.

Developing glassblower Mark Gordon has been making fish as well as functional glassware, including pitchers and tumblers. Where his previous work involved powdered and fritted glasses, his current colors are simple, transparent and deep.

Stop by for glassblowing demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The studio’s annual Breakfast Reception takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday.
