Seattle author Dan Savage reads from his new book, “The Commitment: Love, Sex, Marriage and My Family,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at Lucy’s Books in historic downtown Astoria.

Savage excels at scathing political commentary, as well as personal, brutally honest revelations that can make a reader weep. His newest book tackles the issue of gay marriage through the eyes and experience of his own family – his boyfriend of 10 years, their 7-year-old son and their extended families.

Savage is the author of the internationally syndicated sex-advice column “Savage Love” and the editor of The Stranger, Seattle’s weekly newspaper. His books include “Skipping Towards Gomorrah,” a collection of his advice columns, and “The Kid,” an award-winning memoir about adoption. His writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, the op-ed pages of the New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Onion and other publications. He has also contributed numerous pieces to This American Life on National Public Radio.

Lucy’s Books is located at 348 12th St. in Astoria. For more information, call (503) 325-4210.
