Monster trucks roar into fairgrounds

It’s not Halloween yet, but monsters will be roaring into Astoria this weekend.
Monster trucks, that is. Local mudbogger Ed Hillard and friends have once again invited stars of the monster truck and mud bog world to the Clatsop County Fairgrounds for two shows guaranteed to rev your engines and fatten your tires, presented by Fast Lube & Oil.
Some of the famous machines that will be speeding and stomping around the arena include Captain U.S.A. from Yakima, Wash., and Tough Country Dragon Slayer and Spiderman from Utah.
Hillard’s own mudbog truck, Blown Bad Wolf, will take on local racers in a mudbog shootout. Mud truck drivers can sign up between noon and 6:15 p.m. the day of the event. Entry fee is $40 for one driver and one crew person. Seat belt and helmet are required. Winners receive cash prizes and trophies.
Fans of the giant trucks can meet their owners and drivers at a Pit Party from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 in the parking lot of the Astoria Red Lion Inn, 400 Industry St.
Clouds of smoke, exhaust and mud particles stream from local racer Ed Hillard’s mudbogger, ‘Blown Bad Wolf.’ Submitted photo. On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14 and 15, the fairground gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the action starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance for all seats, or $15 at the door for ages 13 and older and $12 for children ages 4 to 12.
