Elizabeth Ann ‘Beth’ Layton

Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Layton, 81, of Salem, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, in Salem.
Mrs. Layton was born Aug. 17, 1924 in Ochelata, Okla. She was raised in Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma State University. She worked for Katz Department Store in Stillwater, Okla. as a bookkeeper for several years.
She married Robert Cardin in Oklahoma and the couple moved to Salem in 1965. He preceded her in death in 1991.
In Salem, she worked for Capital Electric Company where she retired in 1991.
She married Dale Layton, former owner of Luce-Layton Mortuary of Astoria, in Salem on Feb. 19, 1993. He survives at the family home in Salem.
Mrs. Layton was active in her church her entire life. She was choir director, secretary, attended regular church activities and camp. She also enjoyed painting and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Alan, Ray and Robert and Karen Cardin, all of Vancouver, Wash.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joyce and Dave Lawson of Eugene, Janet and Jim Dickerson of Salem and Mary Alvord of Albany; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Becky and Mike Olson of Astoria; one stepson and two stepdaughters-in-law, Rick and Bili Layton of Newberm, N.C., and Tina Layton of Oregon City; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The memorial will be 3 p.m., Saturday, at Oak Park Community Church in Salem. 2990 Lancaster Drive N.E., Salem, OR 97305.
Private interment will be held at Restlawn Cemetery in Salem.
