Skirts were spinning and feet were stomping as the local Hayshakers Square Dance Club provided dancing entertainment for the residents of Neawanna By The Sea in Seaside Aug. 19. Club members found it hard to judge who was having more fun – the dancers or the observers.

The Hayshakers put on demonstrations like this several times a year, from Cannon Beach to Astoria, in addition to holding their dances twice a month at the Pacific Grange along U.S. Highway 101.
Modern western square dancing is enjoyable and relaxing, and good exercise, club members say. People who are interested in learning this form of dance are invited to the Grange between 3 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, where new lessons will be starting for beginners and for those who haven’t danced for a while and would like a review. Anyone who enjoys music and dancing that requires no special skills is welcome. For information, call any of the following numbers: (503) 325-2100, (503) 717-1152, (503) 861-1772 or (503) 458-6584.
