The Goonies are coming back town, as the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema brings its “Rolling Roadshow” to Astoria with a outdoor showing of the locally filmed flick Sept. 1, complete with an appearance by none other than “Mouth” himself, Corey Feldman.
The Roadshow is traveling the West with its inflatable movie screen in tow, showing 11 movies in the spots they were filmed. In addition to stopping in Astoria, the crew will visit Roswell, N.M., for “It Came form Outer Space,” watch “Repo Man” in Los Angeles, and experience “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” at Devil’s Tower in Wyoming.
“The Goonies,” which follows the adventures of a group of misfit kids searching for pirate treasure and evading nefarious criminals, has developed a cult following over the years. A 20th anniversary celebration in June attracted hundreds of fans to the North Coast.

The movie is also a favorite of Karrie and Tim League, co-owners of the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, and organizers of the Roadshow.
“‘The Goonies’ has been one of those guilty pleasures for me for a while, I just love to watch it over and over again,” Tim League said.
“I really do think it’s a beloved movie of my generation,” Karrie League said.
As part of the Rolling Roadshow, the Leagues try to add something to the moviegoing experience, showing films in places where viewers are surrounded by the environment portrayed on screen, she said.
They have previously screened “The Goonies” 200 feet underground in a cave.
While past Roadshows have stayed in Texas, taking the event truly on the road is something they’ve wanted to do for a while, Karrie League said.
“It’s kind of impulsive,” she said “It’s not really a profit-generating kind of a thing, but we think it will be fun and it’s something that we’ve wanted to do for a long time.”
Astoria’s event will feature a question and answer session with Feldman, who was also in “Stand by Me,” “The Lost Boys,” and many a teen magazine in the ’80s, did a stint on VH1’s reality show “The Surreal Life,” and is currently starring in the off-Broadway comedy “Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy.”
“The Goonies” showing will be at 8 p.m. Sept. 1 at Warren Field. Tickets are $10, which includes a Baby Ruth candy bar, and can be bought at the door or online at (www.rollingroadshow.com).
But be warned – the Web site says that no one will be allowed in unless they do the “Truffle Shuffle,” so start practicing wiggling that belly now.
