Saddle up for the Long Beach Rodeo

LONG BEACH, Wash. – The Peninsula Saddle Club presents the 60th annual Long Beach Rodeo Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31, sponsored by Peninsula Automotive. Festivities begin with the club’s cowboy breakfast, served from 7 to 11 a.m. each morning in the clubhouse at the rodeo grounds, 6407 Sandridge Road.

The Northwest Professional Rodeo starts each day at 1 p.m., with top cowboys and cowgirls in the Northwest competing in bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding, breakaway roping, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing.

Family Night starts after the bull riding event Saturday. Kids get to compete in mutton busting, calf tales, stick horse races, a hay race, hat race, bag race and hangman race. The grand finale will be the always popular greased pig race. A free dance follows Family Night with acoustic folk music by the Jackson Andrews Band from 4 to 8 p.m.

There will be pony rides for the kids, a free rock climbing wall and clowns entertaining each day. Other rodeo features include a beef and pork barbecue served all day, a mechanical bull located near the beer garden, vendor booths selling, food, jewelry, cowboy hats and metal art, plus souvenir T-shirts and sweatshirts for the 60th anniversary on sale.
