The staff of the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park-Fort Clatsop are looking for groups interested in volunteering for a day to help construct the Fort to Sea Trail.

Considerable progress has been made on the six-mile pedestrian and bike path, but more help is needed building a trailhead, hauling and placing gravel ,and moving and replanting vegetation.

All groups that can commit to providing four to 10 people for a day of work are encouraged to join. The following dates are targeted for volunteer crews: July 1-3; July 15-17; July 30, 31; Aug. 5-7; Aug. 12-14; and Aug. 26-28.

The trail roughly follows the route used by members of the Lewis and Clark expedition between their winter encampment at Fort Clatsop and the ocean. It heads west from Fort Clatsop along Perkins Road, crosses U.S. Highway 101 on the pedestrian underpass now under construction by the Oregon Department of Transportation, skirts Rilea Armed Force Training Facility and ends at the new trailhead at Sunset Beach.
