Low vision? Get good lighting

Anyone with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration or another vision problem knows that good lighting is very important. However, more light is not always better, since glare can be a problem. Regular incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent bulbs cause less glare than traditional fluorescent lighting. Chromolux bulbs mimic natural sunlight and are a good choice for those with macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy.
People with low vision should use a desk lamp to illuminate whatever they are reading or working on, as well as a good overhead light. The goal should be to eliminate shadows and glare.
