Master Gardeners stay busy statewide

ST. HELENS – The Columbia County Master Gardeners put on a Spring Fair and plant sale Saturday, April 30, at the St. Helens High School Commons, 2375 Gable Road.

The event includes the annual $1 tomato plant start sale, featuring 30 standard and 30 heirloom varieties grown by nearby Nelson’s Nursery and Shaft Farms. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes a plant clinic and education tables featuring information on vegetables, ornamentals, roses, shrubs, conifers and garden pests. Elsewhere, Master Gardeners are holding events that day. As if the tomato bonanza wasn’t enough, the Tilla-mook MG chapter holds an Odd Year Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds. In McMinnville, the Yamhill County Chapter presents a plant fair and sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds.

If you’re traveling the opposite direction that day, lucky for you that the Clackamas County Spring Garden Fair takes place. The 21st annual Clackamas Fair runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby. More than 170 vendors will attend, offering everything from hanging baskets to bedding plants to garden tools and supplies. The Master Gardeners will be giving free tree seedlings, seed packets, soil tests and refreshments.

The Benton County MG plant sale takes place at the Benton County Fairgrounds, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
