Emily Gibson
Knappa resident, 89Emily Gibson, 89, of Knappa, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Astoria.
Mrs. Gibson was born Oct. 15, 1915 to David and Ann Smith McCauley in Calgary, Alberta. She moved with her family to Brownsmead in 1918, attending elementary school in Brownsmead and high school in Knappa.
She married Paul Ploghoft May 22, 1938, in Kelso, Wash.; they later divorced.
She married Jack Gibson Aug. 3, 1953 in Kelso. He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1979.
Mrs. Gibson worked as a waitress in several establishments and was a singing waitress for Club 13. She served as a volunteer at Svensen Senior Meal Site.
Family members say she spoke fondly of two trips she took to Scotland by ship to visit relatives. She enjoyed gardening, singing and caring for her pets.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lillian and Claire Lee of Knappa and Eileen Corkill of Knappa; a niece and her husband, Claire and Kenneth Green of Knappa; three nephews and two spouses, David and Sue Corkill of Astoria, Bryan and Nora Corkill of Knappa and David McCauley III of Knappa; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
