Mentors sought to serve as role models for youth

The CADY Mentoring Program is looking for a few good mentors in the North Coast area.

A mentor working with CADY (Caring Adults Developing Youth) is an adult who spends time with a youth, aged 10 to 17, for eight hours per month for one year. The mentor serves as a role model and points out positive choices for the youth’s personal relationships, education and community role.

“There are lots of success stories,” says Program Coordinator Tori Daggatt. “Before the program, one of the teens had missed all but three full school days in one school year, but with a mentor in her life, she only missed one school day. Normally, we have 30 mentors,” she says, “but right now we’re down to 21. We’d love to have some more adults step up.”

Prospective mentors need not have previous experience; a mentor training program is provided for individual mentors. For information, call Daggatt at 325-8601.
