Traffic accident A Portland motorist was injured Monday morning when he lost control of his vehicle at 7 a.m. on U.S. Highway 26 at milepost 2.5, ran off the road and struck a tree, Oregon State Police reported. John Hayes Bloomer, 60, was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for treatment. There was hail on the roadway at the time of the crash, making it very slick, OSP said.
Theft At 8:24 a.m. Tuesday, Astoria High School officials reported thefts of cash from students’ lockers totaling several hundred dollars had occurred last week.
Disturbances At 10:38 p.m. Tuesday, while Astoria police were arresting Eric S. Casias, 35, of University Place, Wash., at 10th and Commercial streets on a fugitive warrant, a person with him was cited for hindering prosecution and two other companions were cited for possession of methamphetamine.
At 11:31 p.m. Tuesday, a Clatsop County Sheriff’s deputy arrested Geoffrey Brunick, 47, of Astoria, on one count of second-degree assault and one count of fourth-degree assault after a disturbance at a mobile home park in the 85000 block of U.S. Highway 101. He was lodged at Clatsop County Jail.
