ILWACO, Wash. – For those unable to attend today’s festivities marking the expansion and renaming of Fort Clatsop National Memorial as Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, a pictorial postmark is available for a limited time.

The postmark features portraits of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and was designed by retired U.S. Mint sculptor and engraver Thomas Rogers of Long Beach, Wash., who also designed pictorial postmarks offered at Cape Disappointment and Fort Clatsop during the Lewis and Clark stamps’ first day of issue ceremonies May 14. This is pictured above.

Ilwaco Postmaster Rudy St. John has arranged for the special postmark to be available by mail. Stamped and addressed envelopes should be mailed inside a larger envelope to LCIC Postmark, Postmaster, 128 Lake St., Ilwaco, WA 98624-9998 no later than Dec. 11. The envelopes will be postmarked and returned via regular mail.
