Georgia Mae Mellinger

Clatskanie resident, 91Georgia Mae Mellinger, 91, of Clatskanie, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004 in Clatskanie.

Mrs. Mellinger was born Nov. 15, 1912 in Vancouver, Wash., to William Leander and Frieda Anna (Benson) Van Doren. She graduated from Vernonia High School in 1929.

Mrs. Mellinger married Percy Oliver Mellinger May 14, 1932 in Vernonia. He died Dec. 25, 1995.

Mrs. Mellinger was a longtime member of the Clatskanie Presbyterian Church and served on the prayer chain and as deacon. She was also a member of TOPS, Fire Bells and the Garden Club of Clatskanie. Family members said she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, clamming, fishing and hunting.

Mrs. Mellinger is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William D. and Delores Mellinger of Clatskanie; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mellinger was preceded in death by one daughter, Joan Higgason, who died Sept. 28, 1997.

A service will be at 11 a.m. today at Haakinson-Groulx Mortuary, 225 S.E. Third St., Clatskanie. A committal service will be at 3 p.m. today at Vernonia Pioneer Cemetery.
