Educator, 93Sister Mary Patricia McCann, 93, of Marylhurst, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, in Marylhurst.
Sister Pat, as she was called, was born Dec. 9, 1910 in Portland to Mae (Sutherland) and John F. McCann.
She attended Portland public schools and St. Mary’s Academy in Portland. She received a bachelor’s degree from Holy Names College in Spokane, Wash., and a certification in child development from the University of Washington.
She was an educator for 40 years in Washington and Oregon schools and an advocate for the elderly for 20 years in Astoria and Seaside. She was a Sister of the Holy Names for 63 years. Appointed by Govs. Tom McCall, Vic Atiyeh and Bob Straub, she served 10 years on the Governor’s Commission on Senior Services.
Sister Pat hosed a weekly program at KMUN radio station in Astoria. She interviewed people “who have a wealth of wisdom and experience that young people can’t even imagine,” she said.
She is survived by three brothers, Lynn, Eugene and Robert McCann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Provincial House Chapel in Marylhurst.
