Patricia Lois Bloom, of Stringtown, Wash, 62, died Aug. 22, 2004 in Portland following a short illness.

Mrs. Bloom was born in Astoria Sept. 3, 1941 to Ernest and Lowne (Lewis) Keiski. Her mother survives, residing in Stringtown.

Mrs. Bloom’s grandparents were Finnish immigrants who settled in Ilwaco, Wash., in 1910. The family lived in Stringtown on the shores of Baker Bay.

Mrs. Bloom attended school in Ilwaco, graduating from Ilwaco High School in 1959. She was active in the band and choir and was the queen of the Sweethearts’ Ball.

On Aug. 3, 1963, she married Max Bloom in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chinook, Wash.. He survives, residing in Stringtown.

They lived at the U.S. Air Force base in Naselle, Wash., until 1965 when they moved to Chinook. Several years later, they moved to Stringtown.

Mrs. Bloom worked for 41 years at Chinook Packing Co., Ocean Beauty and Bell Buoy Seafoods in Chinook. Initially Mrs. Bloom was a crab shaker, and later worked as a floor lady, supervising and training others. She retired in June of this year.

Mrs. Bloom was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chinook. She was a member of Fraternity Rebekahs No. 78 in Ilwaco, where she was past noble grand among other offices and received the Degree of Chivalry. She was also a member of Peninsula Junior Women, where she served in local, district and state posts and was State Club Woman of the Year. She was also chairwoman of the Miss Loyalty Day pageant.

Family members said Mrs. Bloom was an avid bowler and enjoyed attending her sons’ sporting events. She also painted with oils and did stained glass. She carried on the family tradition of Finnish baking, making dozens of cookies and candies for the holidays. She took care of her own yard and enjoyed flowers and was a self-professed fan of Elvis Presley.

In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Bloom is survived by two sons, Randy Bloom of Stringtown and Cary Bloom of Naselle; one brother, Ernest Keiski Jr. of Waldport; two sisters, Dottice Heiner of Stringtown and Marcia Glasson of Long Beach, Wash.; four nephews; and one niece.

A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chinook.
