Grace Episcopal Church announced that Michael Henderson has been called to become a postulant for ordination in the Episcopal Church, a step in the process toward ordination to the priesthood.

Henderson was accepted by the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon to postulancy during the recent Diocesan Vocation Workshop. He will enter studies for ordination at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, a member of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Calif.

The Monday morning Bible study group will sponsor a summer spaghetti feed to raise funds to support of Henderson during his nine-month pre-ordination studies in Berkeley.

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. July 18 in the Parish Hall of Grace Church. Three kinds of pasta, Greek salad and the crusty baguettes of Home Spirit Bakery will be served. Tickets are $10 at the door. A family rate is available.

Since his arrival in Astoria in 1995, Henderson has been active in Grace Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry, acting as spiritual director for the recent pastoral search committee, initiating a strong Bible study group and serving as lay Eucharistic minister and preaching periodically under the direction of the Rev. Richard Loop.

Henderson is owner/chef of Home Spirit Bakery and Cafe in Astoria.
