Elizabeth Mattson
Arch Cape resident, 83Elizabeth “Betts” Mattson, 83, of Arch Cape, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in Arch Cape.
Mrs. Mattson was born April 2, 1921 in Chinook, Mont., to William Kohl and Lyda Butcher, the youngest of three children. She was raised and attended school in Havre, Mont.
In 1941, she moved to Washington, D.C., and spent the World War II years working as a secretary. Later she moved to Paris where she was employed at UNESCO for seven years. Upon her returned to the United States, she settled in Portland. There, she worked as a secretary for the administrator at the Primate Center in Aloha.
On Memorial Day, May 30, 1969, she married Marvin Mattson in Chinook, Wash. He survives, residing in Arch Cape.
Mr. and Mrs. Mattson were long-term residents of Falcon-Cove in Oregon.
Mrs. Mattson enjoyed walking on the beach and playing cards. Family members say she loved animals.
She is survived by two nieces, Linda Kohl of Portland and Karen Longoria of McMinnville; two nephews, Kenneth Winebrenner and his wife, Cheri, of Warrenton and Richard Winebrenner of Hawaii; and a half-sister, Shirley Weathermon of Ontario.
A memorial reception will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, 220 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside.
